Cleaning Up Bill Pay

When I was 19, I got a credit card through the bank formerly known as MBNA on my college campus in exchange for a size XL T-shirt and a mechanical pencil with my school's logo. That's a pretty sickening practice really, but I was a working adult, and that card always had a zero balance.

I don't even physically have that card now, but keep it open for its long credit history. Every now and then, I use an online temporary credit card number to buy something online, and then I pay it off. I use that card to make sure they don't just close that account on me. I did that this week, the first time in five months.

I immediately went to go pay it on my WaMu. I use a combination of WaMu, Fidelity Bill Pay, and other websites (Comcast) for my bills. That old credit card was a Bank of America card, but looking at my terrifying Bill Pay list I couldn't even tell which one! In the not so distant past, I two other Bank of America cards which are now closed. Long ago, I cleaned up my finances, but I don't think it was really clear until I cleaned up my Bill Pay list today.

I deleted SIX closed credit cards. I deleted an old power company from two apartments ago. I deleted an old roommate I used to Bill Pay for some expenses. I deleted my student loan that I paid off almost two years ago, and one I paid off four years ago. I almost, almost, almost could delete my car loan. Only $3,300 to go!!

My current, more streamlined Bill Pay that matches my simplified finances:
* my two active credit cards
* fiance's one active credit card
* one old credit card from college for credit history
* my mom & fiance's mom for odd expenses here and there
* current power company
* two car loans (BOO)

I can't wait to get rid of those car loans! Then I'll just have the credit cards, our moms, and our power company
