Since I stepped foot on the flight to college as a terrified freshwoman, I have been in debt. After college, I was 100K deep in student loans. Since I started this blog I have cleared a good deal of debt, but also racked up some more.
Today, I have one little debt left, a 17K car loan. I have paid aggressively on the loan, already a year ahead on payments for a 3 year loan. But I want it gone. I hope that soon there will be no red on my Google Docs spreadsheet. I want to say that I don't owe a dime.
One of the first Dave Ramsey shows I ever heard, a caller said they made a Christmas ornament out of their old credit cards. I'm not the biggest Ramsey fan, and we're not even Christian, but I am DYING to do that. I want to make some sort of marker. I want to cover those credit cards in glitter. I want them to be symbols of happiness, not of bondage, and I want to know that I achieved that goal.
When we are debt free, it will mean we have cleared:
* 6,400 in family debt (OUCH! That was humiliating.)
* 25,000 on a rip-off car loan
* 30,302 in car debt to buy a second, luxury car
* 18,350 in business start up costs
* 22,000 credit card debt (as of December 2007)
* over 100K in student loans
Writing all that out makes the 17K left look like a drop in the bucket. I've come so far, and I can see the light. From now on, it's all cash except the mortgage. Fiance and I are in our mid twenties. We're paying attention. We're focused. We've already accomplished so much. I can't wait for the day we are debt free.

I feel the same way. What's $13k to the $60k that I've already cleared in 2 years? LOL
Can't wait for your debt free post!
Wow that's awesome, congratulations on the progress you made so far. I hope to have similar success myself as time goes on.
Wow, how impressive. That is such an inspiration to me.
Being debt free is the best feeling in the world. You'll love it.
Great job! You will be there in no time. Congratulations!!!
