Ripped Off on Etsy

I've bought a whole lot of stuff on etsy -- a whole lot. I've never had a problem, and I've found the etsy ladies to be fantastic! They really care about their customers, their art, the whole experience. I bought a couple dozen things on etsy for the wedding a while back. They've all been great. But -- one of the orders has not come in yet.

I paid $150 for a custom veil and hairclips for bridesmaids. The seller had tons of sales and feedback. I didn't think it was a problem. Well, two months after the deadline, now she's not responding to email and her account on etsy has been deleted. Nice.

Etsy goes through paypal, but there's also an etsy fee, like eBay. Sometimes, I paid directly through Paypal to avoid the fees. These are just small-scale individuals. I never had a problem until now. Paypal only lets you dispute transactions for 45 days -- who knew? I'm not sure etsy could have done anything, even if it had been through etsy. I'm really bummed.

I'm not even sure what to do. I have a phone number and an email, but I don't even want to call. If she sends me a half-butt veil, I can't use it anyway.

I'm just going to have to call this one a loss. This is a crying shame. I had so many FANTASTIC experiences on etsy. It's the only way I could have gotten the invitations, guest book, ring pillow, cake toppers, and so on that I wanted. I am so grateful for the handmade art I have been able to buy. I love love etsy. And then there's this scam artist. Ugh.

This is so sad...as a seller and buyer on Etsy I just can not believe someone could treat another like this. Let's hope she will get her act together and send you your items...hugs...

Wow!

I'd definitely advise Etsy in either case so that she hasn't just set herself right back up w/ a new account.

That's really crappy,

Nat

That sucks, I hate dishonest people. I hope you get your money back. You reminded me I've been waiting for a refund for months from this one company. I have a feeling they've gone out of business and I'm out of luck. It's probably too late to dispute, I kept trusting them when they said they were working to return my money.

UGH!!

Is there no sacred place any longer?

I'm nervous on Etsy now too. God. I'm so mad for you now.

That's terrible! $150 is a lot! YOu should def still try to call the chick...better to try than do nothing.

I make and sell jewelry through my own web site and recently had a lady basically steal a pair of earrings from me by using Paypal against me. She ordered the earrings, I made and shipped them and even got a delivery confirmation #. A couple weeks later, she disputed the charges and Paypal put my funds on hold. They asked for my feedback so I provided all my info (date I made/shipped/emailed the chick) and even the delivery confirmation # which said that the item had been delivered. I thought I had it in the bag, but a couple weeks later, they removed the funds completely from my account and I couldn't do a thing to dispute it. Jerks! They basically said I was screwed b/c I shipped to an unconfirmed mailing address. I've shipped to dozens of those before without any problems. Oh well.

I hope something works out for you!

I would definitely call. Did you happen to put this on a credit card when you paid through Paypal or did you do it from your checking account? If you paid on your cc, call them and dispute it. Man, that really blows. I've been ripped off before on Ebay, and it's never fun. :(

Good luck

I'd still dispute it through paypal. You're already out $150, so what have you got to lose?

I'd initiate a dispute through etsy too. You never know what they may be willing to do for you.

Call her. Email her. Can you leave negative feedback? Put the seller on blast so she will know you're not playing.

At this point, I wouldn't even want the veil anymore. I'd just want my money back because $150 is a lot of money to throw away.

As another Etsy seller I'm also appalled that this happened to you. You should call her. While I doubt it, perhaps there's a good explanation for what happened. Or if you can speak with her, maybe she will feel shamed into giving you your money back. You shouldn't have to write off $150. I hope it works out!

I had the same thing happen. I'm going to just post around the net with the sellers contact info and tell people not to buy from them. Its wrong of them to take advantage of people like that. I'm out $200 and I'm not taking this lightly.
