The country is very far from my life, or at least my recent past, high-faluting employed life. The country reminds me of my childhood, alone with the stars and the trees and your thoughts.
Senor Dog was busy, and he wasn't even there a couple days. That's right, my in-laws are so awesome that I hung out with them alone with no internet for a couple days.
I read a lot. Some fiction, but also my backlog of business books:
* Seducing the Boys Club - Nina DiSesa
* Never Eat Alone - Keith Ferrazzi
* Tribes - Seth Godin
* 48 Days to the Work you Love - Dan Miller
If you've read these, you'll know there's one that doesn't belong. Definitely Dan Miller. Dan Miller, God bless him, was a colossal waste of time. Honey, I was never going to fire off 1,000 resumes without talking to someone. Does anyone actually do that? And, yea, it would be nice to have a job I actually enjoy. But you seem to have no idea how to get me there, which puts me exactly where I started.
Mostly, I read a lot of platitudes. You know, change the rules. Don't give up. It takes sacrifice. So on. The book that made me think the most is Tribes. I'm actually still digesting it, even though it was the first one I read.
It was very interesting to read these books from the point of view of me (punching bag at the bottom of corporate monsters) and Senor Dog (small business owner). The more I think about it, the more I realize how very different entrepreneurs think and operate than people who work for The Man.

Never Eat Alone is one of my favorite books. I occasionally read Seth Godin's blog, but have not read Tribes, I will check it out.
I agree with you about firing off that many resumes without speaking to anyone. A job search that isn't targeted and strategic paired with meaningful networking is a waste of time.
I thought Dan Miller's book was a waste of time as well!
"Honey, I was never going to fire off 1,000 resumes without talking to someone."
LOL. Amen!
My first thought was "What did she think of Dan Miller's book?"
LOL - I got my answer.
I am interested in Tribes now... thanks for the reco.
*snort* Well.. you have to understand, some people just don't know how to act. They WOULD send out 1000 resumes without talking to someone first.
That Idiot I talk about on the blog (he's coming up soon again.. it's a good one)... he fired off 4 resumes to the same company, thinking the more the better. LOL!!!
2 were from head hunters who thought they were the only ones representing him and the other 2 were from HIM but from 2 venues - LinkedIn & Email
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't like the mass mailing resume tactics. Talking to people is more likely to get you a job because it gets you contacts to get an interview. My wife and I got jobs talking to people, not just sending a resume out and crossing fingers.
Want a better book? "Who Moved My Cheese?"
