The house is gone. Well, actually it's option pending at the moment. We got the inspector report from the other buyer. The house would take way, way too much work for us. Roof, plumbing, electric, some water damage in the walls. It's way too much for us, as first-time homebuyers with no DIY skills.
I always thought I wouldn't get attached to a house. I stuck to the old Dave Ramsey-ism, that there's a house on every corner. But I can see now how you could get emotionally attached.
I'll admit it. I had pictured us in that house. Before I could even get the cash, I had pictured our life there. I had imagined a sketch of its ugly exterior for a housewarming party invitation. Now I'll have to come up with a new plan. Maybe right this second isn't the right time to buy for us.

It was probably a blessing in disguise, houses are always more money and work than first time buyers anticipate. The right place will come along, then you can be like me and wish you were still a renter :)
So you're human. It's so easy to latch on to something and run with it especially when you are feeling a bit out of control with other aspects of your life.
And I'd have to say I agree that this probably isn't the best time for you to purchase a house.
The business is still young and you are still dealing with being unemployed.
I'm not a fan of buying anything just to do it - houses included. It makes more sense to find one you love and suits you then just buying one because it was there and the right price.
Hell if I'm picky about what shoes I buy I'm going to be really picky about where I live.
Perhaps you should start gathering first-time homebuyer information. There's a lot of great info out there that really covers so many things you'd never think of. Then move on to looking at houses - not to actually purchase - but to figure out what you really do and don't want.
I'm sorry this happened. I know what it's like to get attached to a place. But there will be a right house and a right time for you guys.
As always, R. May, you've got great advice.
On a positive note, this was an excellent lesson in home buying. When you find that right house you'll be so glad you didn't get this one.
