I live in a state with mandatory health insurance and I pay about $300 with no deductible and reasonable co-pays.  A plan with all the bells and whistles is $400.  That was the most expensive on the list, and we have some of the best health care in the country.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Oh, and you&amp;#39;re not allowed to screen for preexisting conditions either. I also live in a southern state. I ask because standing in a fountain with delusions of grandeur along with mania-like behavior is a really big sign. I had an aunt who I loved dearly but have only recently had a good relationship; She had a severe mental illness and was self-medicating with meth. I&amp;#39;m lucky to have her clean and sober, but it didn&amp;#39;t happen until later in life. Hopefully he&amp;#39;ll get the help he really needs, and if he&amp;#39;s in prison again for the long haul, maybe you can get him in with a psych consult.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Also, for your parents safety, they can get a restraining order, and if he gets crazy again, on drugs or not, I know in CA there&amp;#39;s a 5150 hold, a 72 hour psychiatric hold for someone who is a danger to himself or others. Ours was $900 (though it was crappy ins.). Wat&amp;#39;s insane, though, is that you&amp;#39;re paying $2400 a year for, well, nothing, unless something catastrophic happens (which is not likely). Health insurance companies are making money hand-over-fist.
