You are not heartless. I worked for 9+ years at a nonprofit. Salaries are much lower than the corporate world. I also did not feel the need to give as much due to working 8+ hours a day on a good cause. Now that I'm working in a corporate environment, I feel differently. It's good to contribute but some people (i.e. nonprofit workers) really do give at the office.

Spending $500.00 on "crap" to quell your "corporate guilt" for the less fortunate - wow - glad to know that you had always been helping those less fortunate with the right spirit and attitude. Guess now that you are in the trenches every day, you must feel pretty good about yourself. Those pesky old "Salvation Army" ringers or "Toys for Tots" collectors need not ask you for anything - you gave at the office! You are truly amazing!

I totally don't get the Anon comments on this blog.

Dog posts good news (like her hubby's business stats), financial updates, or positive thoughts (like man, I really like the team atmosphere we have going at work), and no one says boo. A post like that might get two comments.

She posts something remotely negative (and mean REMOTELY) and the hater(s) come out? What gives?

Not everything in life is sunshine and roses, and people's thoughts shouldn't be expected to be.

I don't think you are heartless at all. You cannot afford to spend $500 in charity gifts this year, you shouldn't feel guilty about that either. You do alot for others, so don't let anyone make you feel bad aout your decision.

It's not that she doesn't want to help others...If you had taken the time to read her previous entry, you'll see why she feels the way that she does.
