I wish my real life mailbox had a spam filter and easy ways to "unsubscribe" to crap. I get coupons I don't use every single week and I don't know how to opt-out and save a tree.

I don't think I've EVER read a financial tip in a magazine that was useful. I don't read pf magazines, just general ones.

To some of us, a major score with a $50 washer/dryer set would be important. Maybe you were referring more to the smaller things.

I think these things do add up, and I guess the sheeple who read that wastepaper need to be told. I've seen people waste plenty on frills like bottled water (that and other luxuries add up to wasted hundreds per month) and I think a lot can be saved by prudent appliance and furniture purchases - that sort of big thing that blends into the next realm - cars, houses - it's all on a continuum. Now, if we're talking about counting sheets of toilet paper a la Trent, then... yeah, that's a "wow." And I don't believe major lifestyle changes can be effected by measuring t.p.

I also dislike stupid magazines and their endless litany of tips that most of us can figure out for ourselves, but...

What's up with, "Lord help you if you need these awful tips to survive on one income." Yes, if you've overspent on a wedding (see the wedding description in my post today, by the way.)

But if you meant that in a general sense - what's with the "Lord help you" statement? We live in an area with excellent local water, so I think buying bottled water (likely to be inferior to our local water) is a waste, and I don't see anything wrong with buying appliances used. I think it's a good way to save money.

I hate when companies sell your name. I actually got my first credit card my freshman year in college 17 years ago and my middle initial was put on the card as R and not A. Well, to this day, I still get crap with my middle initial as R and I know exactly where it came from. The sad thing is I have moved about 8 times and even got married and it still follows me. UGH! Get ready for the onslaught of stuff with that name on it.

Regarding the financial stuff, I am sure the average subscriber to the Knot is not as well educated as you so that is why the information seems so stupid. I am always amazed how things are not always so obvious to some people.
